Inspired by “Life in a Day”, a documentary film directed by Kevin Macdonald with input from over 80,000 people from all around the world who submitted video clips showing their lives on a single day, the Network on Humanitarian Action (NOHA) would like to pursue a similar project showcasing the life and work of humanitarian workers and, more specifically, of NOHA students, graduates and faculty. Its primary objective is to present the variety of personal and professional experiences of humanitarian work both, in the field and headquarters. It aims to show the daily struggles, personal rewards, challenges, and achievements of humanitarian workers around the world.
In order to do so, we need your contribution! You are invited to submit short video snippets of various parts of your day. Your videos should be filmed between the 2 and 31 July 2018. We are hoping to get as many video snippets as possible to be able to put them altogether and show what one day is like for you and other humanitarian workers around the world.
Content of the video snippets:
The video snippets can be of you talking, of images of you while you are working, of other people, of co-workers, of people your organisation is supporting. It can be of you telling a story, or just talking about your day and how you feel; it can be a conversation between two people. If you are filming other people, please make sure you have their consent and inform them that the videos may be made public.
We will need video snippets from various hours of the day and night, so please don’t hesitate to send us footage of different moments during your day.
How will your input be used:
Once we receive everyone’s input, we will put the video snippets together as a short film. The film will be premiered during the NOHA 25 anniversary in Brussels in November 2018. It will also be put up on the NOHA website and YouTube channel and may be shown at other venues throughout 2018 and 2019.
- 2-31 July, 2018: recording of the snippets by NOHA students, graduates & staff
- 15 August, 2018: submission deadline
- 14 November, 2018: première during the NOHA 25 anniversary event in Brussels (AidEx 2018)
Technical requirements and submission details:
Snippets can be recorded with the use of all available equipment (video cameras, smartphones etc.). In order to allow an effective film editing process, each snippet should have a length of 3-5 minutes. The material can be submitted in a raw format, without prior editing required.
Snippets should be submitted via WeTransfer (or other available files transfer mechanism) to email@example.com by 15 August 2018. It should be followed by a submission of a duly signed NOHA 25 Video Consent Form, without which we won’t be able to use the received footage.
